We’ve been hard at work getting our new showroom upgraded and well stocked in anticipation of a busy 2010-2011 heating season.

We have brought in a couple of nice electric fireplaces as well as gas fireplaces & inserts and gas stoves. We have held to our specialty also which is wood stoves and inserts.

If you have been enjoying your wood burning fireplace, you should consider upgrading that inefficient fireplace into a high-efficiency heat producer that will not rob your home of its heat and cooling. You can do that by having us install a high-efficiency wood burning insert that will provide beautiful fires while producing more usable heat into the room and cutting your wood consumption drastically.

One thing I am loving is all the space we have in the new location! We have just finished (or almost finished) construction on the workshop. One of the walls of the workshop will serve as a fireplace insert display. The photo shows 3 gas inserts fitted with 5 more to be installed next week.

We will be adding many floor displays to show the many stoves and fireplaces we offer.

We expect to be open by mid-April although we will continue working on displays up until the heating season begins. It seems strange to be talking about next fall when Spring is just now coming in!

The warm weather will come and go quickly so it is not too early to start thinking about a more efficient way of heating and saving money on energy costs.

We will have a couple new lines in the new store as well as a better presentation of bio-fuel heaters. You’re gonna love what we’re doing in Rutherfordton, I guarantee it! Come see us soon. We’re located at 126 West Court Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.

Oh my! How do I even start this announcement?

As most of you already know, Black Mountain has been my home for the past 16 years or so and I truly love it here and especially all the people I have had the privalege to meet and serve. I suppose I should make it clear up front that even though we’re moving the shop, we will still be serving the area and maintaining our customers needs.

Beginning March 15th or so we will be moving into a larger showroom in downtown Rutherfordton, NC. That’s just about 40 miles away so we’ll still be close by to serve our many friends in and around Black Mountain.

We will be located at 126 W. Court Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.

I’ve already been asked, “why you moving Jack?” so let me go ahead and let everyone know what’s going on with my decision to move from Black Mountain.

There are numerous motivating factors. I have actually been looking at Rutherfordton for many years as a location for a stove shop. Years ago when I was working with Bob at Black Mountain Stove & Chimney, we would kick around ideas of opening another store and Rutherfordton is a place I liked a lot.

REASON 1: Rutherfordton is far enough away to be distinct but close enough to still ensure the Western North Carolina mountain culture is a part of my life and work. I am a native of these mountains and would never want to leave them or the fine people here.

When my good friend and former employer Bob Orr sold his store a couple years ago, I did not move with the new owners and opened my own store. It has been great and being in Black Mountain has been as wonderful as ever. I rented a small space from Bob and it has served well for actually getting my own place going.

Now Bob has re-acquired his store and is bringing Black Mountain Stove & Chimney back online. This is great news! Bob is an old stove man and I kinda knew he couldn’t really retire from something that is in your blood. As you might already be thinking, renting my store from Bob who is now a block away with his own store again might be a little odd for 2 old friends like us. You’re right! Bob and I have been together way too long to be competitors, so we’ll put a little space between us and make more happy customers over a broader area.

REASON 2: Black Mountain is in good hands again with my friend Bob who started his shop here over 30 years ago. If it weren’t for Bob and Black Mountain Stove & Chimney, I likely would have never been in Black Mountain anyway. I can better hope for Bob’s continued success if I take my next step in Rutherfordton.

The other has to do with our industry. When you’re dealing with world-renowned products, these manufacturers are very strict on lots of things. One of the biggest things they want is professional representation. You can’t just sell something because you want to or even because you are qualified to. You also commit to seve and support your “territory”. Buncombe and Haywood county is saturated and offers no opportunities for me with the brands I want to represent. Rutherfordton offers me an open territory where I can represent manufacturers that want me to represent them. This is a very critical part our business. The demographics check out good. Manufacturers are already beating on me to bring them in and I will have a suitable location to do so. It’s just a logical business move for me to move “down the mountain” a little bit to open up many options for the business.

REASON 3: Territorial opportunities.

In closing I want to assure everyone in our current market that I WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE THIS AREA. We will maintain our local Asheville phone number and will remain in the phone book. Just give us a call when you need us. Remember, we’re only 40 miles away.

Thank You!

Jack

Hundreds of manufacturers will be unveiling new and exciting products as well as showing current models.

In order for us to stay on top of the industry trends and become aware of the latest products that our customers will be interested in, it is important that our shop be represented at the EXPO.

For this reason, our showroom will be closed the week of March 8th through March 14th. We will reopen on Monday, March 15th.

I will be accessible by telephone while we’re gone. Give me a call at 828-367-0031 and select option 1 to reach me. Our staff will be engaged in various educational classes during the week so if I am unable to answer when you call, leave me a message and I will call you back as soon as I am free.

We look forward to bringing you new and exciting products for the 2010-2011 season we find at the show.

The market rules and the market at the moment says I have way too much gas product on the floor! Wood is king right now and I am maxed out on how many wood stoves and inserts I am displaying on the floor. Trucks are rolling in here every day and I need to get the new merchandise out for you to see. How can I do it?

I either have to put the gas products in the warehouse to make room or I need to sell it and get it out of here. You know I worked hard to get it in here this summer so I would certainly prefer to sell it rather than work doubly hard to get it out. Let’s make a deal and put a fine gas stove or fireplace in your home today.

Below are a few photos from around the showroom of various gas products I would like to sell rather than move to the warehouse (which has dozens of gas units already).

My apologies for the graniness. Too much winter stress and I’m not smart enough to figure out the image stabilizer on my camera. CLICK IMAGES FOR LARGER VERSION

In the first photo we have a Waterford emerald DV, a Lexington Forge DV, a HearthStone Sterling DV, a Vermont Castings Stardance VF, a HearthStone Tribute DV and almost out of view, a HearthStone Santa Fe DV.

In the second photo is a Regency BV for you contemporary design lovers. Very nice stove and burn.

In the third photo; A lovely red Vermont Castings Radiance DV, a Jotul GF600 DV, a Jotul GF300BV, a Jotul GF100 DV in Ivory, a Jotul GF200 DV, a Jotul GF200 DV, a Jotul GF400 BV in ivory and almost outta sight is a Jotul GF300 DV.

In the 4th photo is a very nice Monessen 32 inch vent free fireplace with a honey oak cabinet. You can just set this up, connect gas and be DONE. This setup is usually a little over $2,000 but Its been on the floor a while, brand new but time to go. First $950 will take this one. I think it will need a small piece of filler oak on the bottom but I’ll look around and see if I can find it.

the 5th is just a closer look at that elegant Jotul ivory enamel. Aint it purdy?

The 6th photo is the shop troll. If you buy all the gas stoves on the floor you get him for free to come bring it all to your house.

Come experience the world's cleanes burning stove for yourself.

You know, I get asked all the time, “What’s the best stove you have?” That is a hard question to answer for a lot of reasons. If the question were, “What’s teh best stove for my house and burning habits?” it would be a lot simpler answer.

In today’s market, I want to touch on something that is hardly ever considered. What is the best stove for America? Ever think about where your products come from, where their components are made or where they are assembled?

Let’s consider for just a minute that I had a stove line here at the shop that was 100% American made by Americans using parts also made in America. Would you buy it? What if the price was no more than foreign made products of like quality? What if the performance of the American product was far superior to anything made anywhere else in the world? Would that interest you?

I am very proud to say that I have just such a product. VERMONT CASTING is America’s stove company. The foundry, enameling and assembly facilities are in Vermont, USA and the company provides almost 400 American jobs. More than double that number when you consider the other opperations such as fireplaces, logs, metalwork, etc.

Vermont Castings stoves are the world’s most efficient appliances. Vermont castings wood stoves have reached efficiency levels better than many gas appliances on the market! That is amazing. Emissions have been reduced to the point they are almost eliminated completely with numbers falling well below 1 gram of emissions.

When you’re shopping higher end appliance such as the Cast-iron line of stoves, Vermont Castings, although superior in design and function, boast a price tag as affordable as other high end stoves produced overseas.

What Vermont Castings offers that others don’t is a line of efficient, clean burning stoves and inserts that are priced to agressively take market share from other manufacturers.

The Dutchwest line of cast-iron stoves will save you hundreds over other cast-iron models by any make. The Dutchwest steel stoves and inserts are unbeatable in price for their quality. Sure you can find a cheaper stove, but it will be disposable. Dutchwest has done a magnificent job making a durable product at an affordable price.

America is in a trying time with our jobs being lost and the economic issues we face and are yet to face. There are so many things we can do to look out for one another. One of those things is simply looking at where things you buy were made and buy American whenever you can. On a major purchase like your wood stove and chimney, you look out for many people and inlike smaller things, it doesn’t cost you more to buy a quality American made stove by Vermont Castings.

WOW! I thought we were busy a couple weeks ago but now we’re running daylight to well after dark trying to keep up!

I have not had nearly enough time lately to post on the site so I hope to knock out a few items with this article if that’s cool with you?

1. We’re replacing some stoves for customers and bringing in some really nice stuff for consignment. We’ve even brought in a couple very nice EPA certified stoves that have a lot of good life left in them. This presents a great opportunity for you to add an environmentally friendly heating stove to your home and save a bunch of cash. Give us a call to check what’s in stock and for pricing.

2. We’re extending all our sales for just a little longer. Response has been HUGE for our chimney liner specials. Don’t miss out on a bargain as supply gets drained and demand increases, consumers typically pay more. Not because of me, but because I pay more too. I’m keeping liner prices low, low, low as long as I can and I continue to offer free shipping to your door. Call me up for a quote on your chimney liner kit. Save some money while keeping your family safe by liner your masonry chimney. Hey, if your masonry chimney is new and perfect, line it an it will always remain new and perfect. Damage it in a chimney fire and you’ll have to line it anyway. Here’s you chance to safe on prevention.

3. SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE… Maintenance and service numbers were really down this summer and they remain down. Either you’re calling someone else or you’re neglecting critical maintenance. You would never call anyone but Jack so you must be neglecting maintenance. LISTEN, you’re my friends and I do love you a whole lot more than just because you buy stoves and fireplaces. I want you to be safe. I feel the economic crunch with you but please don’t neglect service. We’re getting busy and it is going to be hard to get an appontment in a few weeks. The following are critically important to maintain and inspect;

     a. VENT FREE LOGS AND APPLIANCES: Although engineered safe to use without a chimney, these wonders MUST be services regularly. Annual maintenance is critical. If these things are neglected and malfunction, you could cause severe damage to your home and health in just a matter of minutes!

     b. CHIMNEY CLEANING: Chimney cleaning is important. ESPECIALLY if you have a wood stove or insert. If you have an old stove, GOOD LORD YOU BETTER NOT NEGLECT IT! A chimney fire is scary and absolutely will cost you thousands of dollars in damage to your chimney if you’re lucky! You could burn your house down as well. Chimney fires can often reach temperatures over 2,000 degrees. Call us for your cleaning appointment.

     c. VENTED GAS APPLIANCES: Although it is more critical to maintain a vent free appliance, it is also important to maintain your vented gas appliances as well. Gas appliances don’t give many warnings before their safety systems cause them to stop working. My annual service & diagnostics service will find those little items about to fail and get them replaced so your stove continues to be efficient and reliable. Nothing is worse than waking up to a cold house because you neglected to have the gas stove checked out before the season.

     d. MASONRY SEALER: Did you know the masonry around your home’s exterior would last 20 times longer if you would just seal it so water does not penetrate it? What happens in winter is that water soaks into your masonry work then freezes and expands. That causes cracks and spawling. Eventually, your masonry will lose its integrity and require rebuilding or major repairs. You can buy a sealer yourself and apply but I encourage you to call me and have me do the work with my specially formulated professional products. Even the best you can buy has to be applied every year. Our professional grade products come with a 10-year written warranty. Ours are vapor permiable as well. That is just a fancy way of saying water that’s already in can come out but no new water can go in. The product breathes. This ensures any moisture already there can escape. Give me a call. Imagine, hire me to do seal all your masonry and forget about it for a whole decade! The cost is a lot less than you might think too. I can come out and give you an estimate if you like.

There we go folks. That should be enough to chew on for a day or two. I gotta run get to work before I get too behind. Call me up anytime you have a question. I’m here to help. That doesn’t always come at a cost. Be safe out there!
