LOC-TOP DAMPERS

We have THE CURE for that rusted out or drafty fireplace damper that is robbing your home of valuable heat and air conditioning costs.

The innovative LOC-TOP top-sealing damper has been curing these problems for years.

With a traditional damper, even when new they are not designed to offer an airtight seal. Over time these dampers get rusty or their frames mortar deteriorates leaving your home with a drafty fireplace that increases your energy costs in all seasons.

In about 2 hours, Jack’s Stove Shop can remedy these problems for good by installing a LOC-TOP top sealing damper on your fireplace chimney.

These dampers offer many benefits;

  1. Offer an airtight seal by incorporating a high-temperature silicone gasket into the damper design.
  2. Keep out rain with its integrated chimney cap.
  3. Helps ensure a better draft at initial start up but pre-heating the chimney so there is no heavy cold air to overcome.
  4. Keeps animals and vegetation out of your chimney.
  5. more convenient handle position ensures you have a clean, cool, and easily accessible handle to open and close the damper. No more leaning down into the fireplace to find a sooty, black handle to operate the damper.
  6. Cost effective preventive measure to combat chimney deterioration.

CHIMNEY SAFETY

To remain safe from damage or loss of life resulting from fire, smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning it is CRITICAL that you not forget to maintain your chimney properly.

So many factors come into play with chimneys. Your wood stove is ONLY ONE. Many people are under the assumption that today’s high-effiency, clean-burning wood stoves require little to no maintenance. That is not necessarily the case. Even a modern stove will deposit some pollutant into the chimney which require cleaning. Environmental issues, wood quality and moisture content, and the construction of your chimney will also come into play with how often your chimney needs cleaning.

Annual inspections and cleaning are CRITICAL. We may find that your chimney is spotless and can go another season before cleaning but please let us determine that at the annual checkup. Just one chimney fire can DESTROY your chimney rendering it unfit to use. What’s worse is just one chimney fire, usually exceeding 2,000 degrees, can ignite the structure of your home causing catastrophic loss of property or even loss of life.

If you haven’t had your chimney cleaned and inspected within the past year, don’t wait until an unsafe situation arrises. Call us today to schedule an appointment. We can have you safe and ready for another year of burning in just a couple of hours.

CHIMNEY CAPS

One of the most overlooked items on homes is a chimney cap although it is the least expensive preventive measure a homeowner can take against the elements and wildlife.

Advantages of a chimney cap:

  • A rain cap keeps out rain & snow – eliminating chimney liner saturation, frost, & ice formation.
  • Chimney caps keep animals and their nesting out of your chimney.
  • The spark arrestor of a chimney cap stops stray sparks from leaving your chimney.
  • Chimney caps help to eliminate & minimize wind downdrafts that can cause fireplace smoke backup.

Jack’s Stove Shop can handle any size or style of chimney cap to suit your requirements and we offer professional installation. We can even fabricate a chimney cap made specifically for your chimney if need be.

Give us a call today to order your cap and schedule installation. If needed, we can come out and measure for a perfect fit.

WHY RELINE?

Almost every time I discuss installation with a customer the question comes up whether or not a chimney liner is really necessary.

I never try to sell anyone something they don’t need but a sound masonry lined chimney is not always adequate for a modern stove installation. Here are a few reasons why;

  1. If the chimney is servicing a masonry fireplace, it is highly likely that the flue is much larger than the size of flue the stove or insert was engineered to use. As we all know, heat powers the chimney and today’s high-efficiency wood stoves are exhausting less heat than ever. This means that there is less heat to power the chimney which makes proper sizing a critical part of the venting equation. Dumping relatively cool flue gasses into a big cold chimney may cause the gasses to cool too quickly which will hider draft. A stove may work somewhat normally with large fires but may suffer early or late in the combustion process when the firebox is cooler. Sizing down the flue to manufacturer specifications help the gasses to escape before cooling ensuring a better draft.
  2. Safety & added security of a chimney liner is like buying cheap insurance for your home. Masonry Chimneys don’t handle abuse very well. A chimney fire burns in excess of 2,000 degrees and cause a great deal of expansion on the masonry materials. In a chimney fire situation the extreme temperatures can easily cause cracks in the masonry system. If this occurs,  the fix is… you guessed it, a chimney liner. It is much safer to just go ahead and install the liner when you install your new stove or insert and avoid the risk and damage altogether. Like I always tell my customers, “the choice is yours, but if you install the liner, that perfect masonry chimney will remain as perfect as it is now. The stainless/titanium alloy liner system we use can take the punishment and carries a lifetime warranty even after a chimney fire”. Masonry chimneys have NO WARRANTY.
  3. When you compare the cost to fully line the chimney to doing a minimum direct-connect installation, the perceived advantages of not lining quickly diminish. The parts needed to perform a basic direct-connect installation are just under $200. With our manufacturer-direct buying power, we can offer a complete system to fully line a 20 foot chimney for just $450. This includes the appliance connector, top sealing plate & chimney cap! If we do the installation, we add upper and lower insulation.
  4. Chimney cleaning is a snap with a fully lined chimney. An insert installed without a liner must be completely removed and reinstalled during annual chimney maintenance. If it isn’t being removed, your chimney isn’t being properly cleaned. This added work might double the annual cost of chimney cleaning! With a liner connected to the insert, the chimney is cleaned and the debris is deposited into the firebox for easy, clean removal.
